This year, GCNKAA teamed with Upscale Furniture to furnish a deserving single mother’s home. Thank you to Upscale Furniture and the AA OUTREACH for all their hard work!

A report from CAIN for those receiving assistance with rent included the following comments:

One man and his family had a fire at their previous apartment and had to move to a new apartment and funds were tight.

A single woman, having increasingly serious health problems, moved to an apartment with more handicap access and caused her funds to be depleted.

A husband and wife had their hours severely cut at work and it has been hard to pay bills.

There were many more situations where the $100 grant through CAIN has helped build a bridge over a rough patch in life.

Canned Food Drive

The Outreach distributed over 8,000 pounds of food to 24 pantries throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Over 20 GCNKAA member communities participated by collecting food within their communities to be distributed to the local
pantry in their area.

The Outreach also supplements the donated food filling the need for items not generally received by purchasing food such as oatmeal, chunky soup, canned chicken, etc.

$8ooo. + was spent on supplemental purchases 29 cases of food for 24 pantries was delivered.

Food Donations are collected from area apartment communities and deployed back into the community through pantries within each apartment community’s neighborhood.

Purchase is made by OUTREACH, of high protein, premium products for direct distribution of 29 cases of food to 24 pantries other than the local community pantries receiving community donations. We appreciate Serv-Pro of NW Cincinnati, Wayne Hartke for providing storage for food bought in bulk and distributed throughout the year.

Furniture Giveaway

Each year the OUTREACH participates with the CORT Furniture Rental and the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Apartment Association Associate Council in providing for a family in need. CORT provides new furniture, accessories, bedding, kitchen supplies, etc.; the Associate Council buys gifts for the entire family as well as the purchase and setup of a Christmas tree and the OUTREACH provides a gift card for the purchase of food.

The Sandwich Window Project is a unique offering of lunch items for individuals in downtown Cincinnati, Over The Rhine. The St John’s Sandwich Window is a part of the Mercy Health Partners umbrella of operations. Volunteers prepare the 200 + (x 2 with a meat & cheese and a PBJ) sandwiches and include in the brown bag lunch a piece of fruit, chips, bottled water or juice. Preparation is from 9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. and distribution from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
