Back Pack Giveaway

In August 2011, a “Back to School” program provided over 1200 children living in the Price Hill area with supplies in conjunction with Santa Maria services.   Over 60,000 items were stuffed in the backpacks.  Over 60 volunteers were on hand to stuff the backpacks!  Each child received a clear backpack with all the requested supplies.  Many of these children had no pencils or paper of their own in previous school years.  The children “oh” and “ah” over simple school supplies. Channel 19 WXIX covered this event with the press release going to all the media.   The recipients of the first event were 300 children & resource coordinator at Roll Hill School in 2005.  Since then 1700 children who live in  Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing, school children in Newport and Covington public housing as well as West Clermont Elementary schools, St Joseph Orphanage and other social services have received back packs filled with school supplies.  The budget for this program is $12,000.

In conjunction with Santa Maria Community Services and St Lawrence School, 1200 filled backpacks will be distributed on Saturday, August 2nd.  Volunteers are needed.
